Warren Doi is new to the ceramic clay medium and quickly discovered it to be a passion. He has been taking classes and practicing since December of 2009 at the Red Kiln Studio and Gallery in Salt Lake City. As recently as the beginning of 2013, he was asked by Randi Lile, the Studio Manager of the Red Kiln, to start teaching the Beginner I - Wheel Throwing and subsequently the Beginner II - Wheel Throwing and the Alternative Firing Technique classes.
Warren enjoys the creation of functional pieces along with alternative firing techniques such as Naked Raku, horse hair and Barrel Firing. Since these alternative firing techniques are considered non-functional and will not hold water for long periods of time and not food or dishwasher safe, he has discovered ways to use these techniques to create functional pieces of art such as table lamps and urns.
Warren has been participating in the local “Empty Bowls” fundraiser which ultimately donates the proceeds to the Catholic Community Services of Utah to feed the homeless, by making, glazing and firing bowls. These bowls are not only made by him but other potters that participate in the annual “bowlathon” held at the Red Kiln Studio.
